Stacy Milrany is a painter, printmaker, and illustrator with a distinctive pop-art style, inspired by observations of daily life and the human experience.
Her work is identifiable in its unique combination of text, letterforms, bold shapes, irregular patterns, mysterious lines, and imperfect marks. Its subject matter often reflects her life spent in coastal regions of Oregon, Washington and California.
Milrany’s style is often described as insightful, contemporary, colorful, fun, and richly textured. She’s especially drawn to media providing inherent elements of surprise and imprecision, including monotype printmaking, watercolor, and collage. She also works in oil, acrylic, and encaustics, and isn’t afraid to combine all of the above.
Originally from Portland, OR, Milrany received a BA in Journalism from the University of Oregon and an MS in Mass Communication from Virginia Commonwealth University.
While primarily self-taught as an artist, she’s pursued independent studies in studio art at institutions including Portland State University, UC Berkeley, the School of Visual Arts in NYC, Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, and the Gage Academy of Art in Seattle.
Before spending a few decades as a creative in advertising agencies around the country, she also worked as a forest firefighter, reporter, private investigator, and Zamboni driver.
She now works from her home studio in Seattle, WA. When she’s not working, she enjoys climbing steep hills, talking to strangers, and curating the Free Little Art Gallery she started on her sidewalk in the winter of 2020.*
